Why I love Magenta – Ben at BG Productions
At Magenta, our customers have so many different reasons for choosing our units. For many, it’s a flexible and cost-effective way to store business stock and Ben Gordon is no exception. Ben runs lighting and sound company BG Productions and has been using our Oxford branch for storage since he set up his business in 2016.
Q: Tell us a bit about your business
A: BG Productions offers lighting, sound and audio-visual design, production management, equipment hire and sales. We currently focus on providing hire products to companies, theatres and live events in the Oxford area. We also have a party hire service for students.
Q: Why and when was the business founded?
A: I decided to set it up initially when I started university in Autumn 2016, so I had a brand for myself as a freelance theatre and event technician. Very quickly, it progressed to include a rental service, which allowed me to take on a wider variety of work. It’s now my full-time occupation.
Q: Why did you start storing with Magenta?
A: I was really starting to develop the equipment hire services, as well as equipment buy-to-sell and reselling for my clients. I started by hiring a large Magenta unit and once the stock had sold, I moved into a smaller one. I’ve since upgraded back to a bigger unit!
Q: What is it about Magenta that appeals to you?
A: The most useful part for me is the ability to scale my storage space as the business grows. I’ve changed units a few times now to accommodate more stock and my changing services to customers. Having all-inclusive insurance for the contents of the storage unit as part of my package also saves me money on having to take out a second insurance policy. For me, Magenta is a great solution – the opening hours work well and it’s easily accessible. I also really like the large loading bay for vans and cars.
Q: What are your ambitions for the future?
A: I plan to grow the hire stock as well as growing the number of hire clients. I’m launching a services sector for venue maintenance and installation work, as well as a space booking and management platform to manage venue spaces. I’m also moving towards working with weddings to supply and design lighting, sound and AV.
