Moving house is hard enough, however moving house in 2020 is another ball game.
There is no guide to moving house; it is all a jumble of emotions, a roller coaster with hidden corners and one of the biggest things you will do in your life.
We all can take advice from friends, family and colleagues yet each of our stories will be different, each of our journeys will be unique and each of our experiences may never happen again. However, one thing is for sure, if anyone has moved home in 2020, you all had an unexpected hurdle.
There are a few simple tips that can help ease some of the pressures.
Start as you mean to go on
Packing is simply a giant game of Tetris. Start by getting your equipment ready; boxes, bubble wrap, labels and a marker pen that works! They’re all simple tools that will make your move that little bit easier. In each room, start packing up your decorative items. By packing up these items first, you are more likely to want to continue with the process, as when a room becomes less like home the moving bug sets in!
Be Organised
What is in the box? There is nothing to be ashamed of, we have all been there. However, there are a couple of tricks to make finding your items a little bit easier. Use a coloured label to identify specific rooms, such as a blue label for your bathroom, red for the kitchen and green for the garage. List the contents on the front of the box, this is a game changer for finding those peaky Christmas baubles! Labelling will be your best friend! As for paperwork, give that its own box and get yourself a filling system. This will make all the difference!
Be Smart
We always want as few trips as possible when moving, yet fewer and heavier boxes will take you a lot longer to move. Pack a box of books half full and fill the rest of it with a cushion or a blanket. It might seem simple but trust us when we say you’ll regret filling the box to the brim when you go to lift it!
To Do Lists
Whether you love an excel spreadsheet or a good old bit of paper, having everything documented is really important. Make a to do list with exactly what you need to do, arrange and complete. With multiple people involved with the process such as solicitors, sales offices, banks, insurance companies and many more it is very easy to forget what needs to be completed.
Get Ahead of The Game
With the uncertainly of when completions will take place, getting ahead of the game is key! We, sadly, can’t ask friends and family to help out with moving at the moment, but what you can do is move non-essential items into storage. It may seem trivial, but if you don’t need it now why worry about all the stress of moving the entire contents of your home in one day?
Moving in 2020 may have been different, but we still have a few months left so let’s make it count! Following these simple steps can help you on the road to a successful and happy move into your new home.
